Have you ever felt like you were doing everything right, and yet somehow, everything still went wrong?
You prayed. You obeyed. You believed.
And then—boom. The bottom fell out.
One moment, everything was calm. The next? Chaos.
We all know that feeling. The tension before a storm hits. The spiritual temperature starts shifting. Shadows get longer. Life gets darker. And your thoughts? They start running like kids who heard the ice cream truck.
But here’s the truth that storms always forget: God never leaves the boat.
Storms Happen to All of Us
We don’t get to schedule our storms. Nobody adds them to their calendar.
- “Hey Siri, remind me to lose my job at 4 PM on Tuesday.”
- “Alexa, can you set a storm for the day the rent is due?”
Nope.
Storms are unpredictable, uncomfortable, and unfair. But they are never unmanageable when Jesus is on board.
Even when the waves are crashing. Even when you’re praying through tears. Even when you’re wondering, “God, do You even care?”
The disciples asked that same question in Mark 4. Jesus was right there in the boat, sleeping. And they panicked. “Don’t you care if we drown?!”
Ever prayed that prayer?
But what did Jesus do? He got up, rebuked the storm, and reminded them of their faith. He didn’t scold them for waking Him. He calmed the chaos because they called on Him.
Fear Is Natural—But It Doesn’t Get the Final Say
Let’s be real. We’ve all had moments where we’ve been chased upstairs by invisible monsters. (Don’t act like you never sprinted up from a dark basement!)
Fear is human. It’s built in.
But living in fear? That’s not God’s plan for us.
2 Timothy 1:7 says, “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.”
If fear is running your thoughts, it’s time to change the channel.
And the quickest way to do that? The Word.
When storms hit, you don’t have time to go looking for your faith. You need it ready. That’s why filling your heart with the Word is like stocking up on batteries before the power goes out.
Trouble Doesn’t Mean God Left
Sometimes we think trouble only comes when we’ve messed up. Like storms are punishment.
But the Bible says differently.
In John 16:33, Jesus tells us clearly: “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
That’s not a maybe. It’s a promise.
But so is peace.
Jesus doesn’t promise us a life without pain. He promises us peace in the middle of it.
Maybe you’re thinking, “Okay, but this storm? This one feels different. This one feels like it’s going to take me out.”
You’re not alone in that thought. King David said in Psalm 13:2, “How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart?”
We get it.
You can be in the middle of a miracle and still feel like you’re losing.
Speak to the Storm
Jesus spoke to the wind and the waves. He didn’t whisper. He didn’t hope. He spoke.
You can, too.
Your words matter. Not just in praise, but in power.
Speak life over your situation. Speak peace into your chaos. Speak God’s promises louder than your problems.
Because your storm hears you.
Don’t Do It Alone
When you’re in the middle of a storm, isolation can feel easier. But it never helps.
You weren’t meant to row this boat alone.
That’s why church matters. That’s why community matters.
When one of us gets hit, we all stand up. We fight together. We rebuild together. We pray together. We praise together.
You don’t have to have all the answers. But you do need people who will remind you of the truth when your heart forgets.
The Storm Is Temporary
Let’s not forget the good news.
Storms don’t last.
Yes, they’re loud. Yes, they’re messy. But they pass.
We’ve all spent sleepless nights worrying about things that never even happened. We’ve cried over outcomes that didn’t show up. But God? He was there the whole time.
And He’s not finished yet.
What Looks Dead Isn’t Always Done
Martha told Jesus, “If you’d been here, my brother wouldn’t have died.”
Jesus said, “He will rise again.”
But Martha was stuck in what didn’t happen.
How many times do we do the same?
We focus on what didn’t happen, what didn’t work, who didn’t show up.
But Jesus doesn’t operate on our schedule. He shows up right on time—His time.
And when He shows up, what looked dead can come back to life.
Lazarus walked out of that tomb, still wrapped in grave clothes. That’s where community steps in again. Sometimes it takes a village to unwrap the victory.
So if you’re still wrapped up in pain, grief, fear, or confusion—you’re not done. You’re just being unwrapped.
There’s Purpose in the Storm
Every storm has two sides: pain and purpose.
The enemy wants the pain to distract you from the purpose.
But God? He uses the storm to strengthen you.
To shape you.
To prepare you.
Sometimes the greatest testimonies come from the deepest trials.
And when it’s all said and done, what tried to bury you will be the very thing God uses to build you.
So don’t give up.
Not in the wind. Not in the waves. Not even when the lightning flashes and everything in you says run.
Hold on. Speak up. Keep going.
Let’s Keep Showing Up
Faith isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about trusting the One who does.
Let’s be the people who keep showing up. Let’s serve our city. Let’s help our neighbors. Let’s pray for each other. Let’s give when it hurts. Let’s worship when it’s hard.
Because when the storm passes—and it will—our faith will still be standing.
And that’s the legacy Jesus called us to live.
A Word for You Today
Hebrews 10:35 says, “So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.”
That promise isn’t just for someone else. It’s for us.
Let’s hold on. Together.
Because the storm won’t last.
