Feeling Stuck? How to Declutter Life Today
Life can sometimes feel a bit chaotic, right? But here’s the good news: we have the power to bring order and clarity back into our world. Whether it’s decluttering our physical space, clearing our mind, or getting our emotions in check, there are simple, actionable steps we can take to make things better.
We’re exploring some practical steps to clear the clutter, stop feeling stuck in life and start living with purpose.
Tackle One Task to Declutter
When we’re feeling overwhelmed by everything on our to-do list, it can be easy to become overwhelmed just by the sheer volume of what we’re trying to accomplish. How do we get past this? The solution is actually something simple: focus on one task at a time.
Imagine dealing with just one tree instead of a whole forest—by narrowing our focus, we can make steady progress without feeling overwhelmed. Similarly, in life, beginning with one small, manageable step paves the way for bigger changes.
Eliminate Clutter, Don’t Just Shift It
Rearranging clutter can give the illusion of productivity, but it doesn’t actually solve our problem. This isn’t just a physical issue. A lot of the reasons we’re feeling stuck are because we’re holding on to negative emotions or have an unrealistic schedule we’re trying to live out. In the back of our minds, we know these things are unnecessary and are inevitably unhelpful.
True decluttering means getting rid of what’s no longer working for us in a positive way, whether it’s physical, mental, or emotional. Start with clearing out a physical space, streamlining the schedule, or asking for God’s help to let go of negative thoughts. The goal is to remove what’s been holding us back from building a better life.
Getting Our Heart and Mind in Sync
When our heart and mind are working together, we set ourselves up for incredible success. How many times have we known what we want in our heart, but feel like our mind is too cluttered with distractions or doubts, to make the necessary progress?
Taking the time to ensure that our heart and mind are working together is a key to living the life we’ve been dreaming of. Find moments to get quiet and eliminate distractions. Use the time to ask God for help to remove any doubts or negative feelings and thoughts that are trying to keep us feeling overwhelmed. It may take a few times, but eventually those doubts will begin to fall away and our heart and mind will get back into alignment.
True Help for Getting Unstuck
Did you know each one of us has an internal compass guiding us throughout every part of our day? Some people call it intuition or a gut feeling, but it’s actually the Holy Spirit speaking with an inner voice. This voice isn’t loud or harsh, but gentle and usually sounds like our own thoughts.
The Holy Spirit speaks because He wants to help us to make the right decisions to declutter our lives. Learning to listen to this voice can lead us to not only better choices, but we’ll have more peace in our life, regardless of our current circumstances. The more we practice tuning in, the more natural it will become to follow His guidance.
Protect Our Heart Above All Else
Taking care of our heart, in the spiritual sense, is one of the best things we can do for ourselves. When we guard and nurture our emotional and spiritual well-being, everything else in life falls into place more naturally. God even reminds us in Proverbs 4:23, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
When our heart is cluttered with unresolved emotions or negativity, it really affects every part of life. By making it a priority to protect our heart, we’ll find that our overall well-being improves. What are some ways to do this? We can start by practicing forgiveness, focusing on the positive pieces of our day, and letting go of hurts and worries.
Declutter Life by Prioritizing Health
This next step, on the surface, appears to be obvious. But for many of us, prioritizing our mental and physical health is a daily challenge. Our body and mind are valuable assets, and many times the physical and mental clutter we experience are interconnected.
We can set ourselves back on track and move past feeling stuck in life by paying attention to the signals our mind and body are sending us. Take notice of things like being more tired than usual, becoming stressed out and on the way to burn out, or feeling overwhelmed. These are all signs that we have some needed adjustments to make. Some simple starting places are adjusting our diet, getting in exercise, and ensuring proper rest. A healthy body and clear mind work best when they can work together.
Build a Supportive Community
The journey to a clutter-free life isn’t one we have to take alone. The people we choose to surround ourselves with significantly influence our success. Studies even suggest we become like the five people we spend the most time with. Who’s in your inner circle? Are they supportive? Are there aspects of their life you’d like to see in yours?
With the right community, we create a network that helps us stay on track and build the life we’ve been believing for. Try joining a group, finding a mentor, or simply spending more time with uplifting and positive friends. Being surrounded by the right people can help us achieve our goals.
Take Action to Declutter Today
The best time to start making the changes we want to see is right now! Whether it’s taking a small step or making a significant change, each action we do today moves us closer to building the life we want to live.
Want to know the amazing part? God enables us to make these changes, one step at a time. What’s your first move to declutter your life?
