The first day of school is always a big moment whether you’re a kid or a parent. There are backpacks to prepare, lunches to make, new teachers to meet, and friends to reconnect with. But there are also the jitters. Will my child have someone to sit with at lunch? Will they feel confident in their classes? Will they stay safe?

In the middle of all that excitement (and chaos), one of the best things you can do is pray over your kids. Prayer isn’t just to calm them as they go. Prayer reminds you that God is with your children in every classroom, every hallway, and every challenge they’ll meet in their day.

Here are 5 Bible verses turned into simple prayers you can speak over your children this school year so you can start each day with peace, hope, and faith.

📖 1. Joshua 1:9

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

🙏 Prayer:
“God, help [child’s name] be strong and brave today. Take away any fear or worry, and remind them You’re right there with them in every class, every hallway, and every single moment of their day. In Jesus name. Amen.”

📖  2. James 1:5

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God… and it will be given to you.”

🙏 Prayer:
“Lord, Your Word says all we have to do is ask for wisdom and you would give it to us. Help [child’s name] to understand what they’re learning and make good choices throughout the day. Thank You for helping them every step of the way. In Jesus name. Amen.”

“Do not be anxious about anything… And the peace of God… will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

“Jesus, when [child’s name] feels nervous or stressed, let Your peace bring comfort and calm to their heart. Keep their mind steady and remind them that they can talk to You about everything. In Your name we pray. Amen”

“Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.”

“God, we ask You to put the right friends in [child’s name]’s path. Surround them with friends who are kind and encouraging, and help them be a caring and compassionate friend to others. In Jesus name. Amen.”

📖  5. Colossians 3:23

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.”

“Lord, help [child’s name] give their best today  in their homework, sports, activities, and everything they do. Let them know it’s not about being perfect, but when they do their best, it’s like a gift back to You. In Jesus name. Amen.”
