Is God Real?
Have you ever looked up at the night sky, pondering about the vastness of the universe? Or marveled at the intricate details of a flower, wondering about the forces that brought it into being?
Questions about the origin of the universe and the reality of a divine being have intrigued even the most devout believers for centuries.
At Faith Church, we embrace these questions with a sense of wonder and curiosity. Even though we may not have all the answers about God, we choose to trust that God is real.
We not only believe that God exists, but that He is deeply personal, desiring a close relationship with each of us.
We’re here to support your faith with four compelling ways we can see and experience the presence of God.
Nature: A Testament to God’s Design
Step outside and observe the world around you. From the majestic mountains to the smallest of insects, nature is a testament to divine design and an ingenious Creator.
Science actually reveals the intricate beauty of creation. For example, the Earth’s position from the sun is not a coincidence – it’s a masterpiece of design. It’s at the perfect distance from the sun, because any closer and we would literally burn up, but any farther away would cause us to freeze!
And when we look up at the boundless galaxies above, it becomes pretty evident that the whole idea of a random big bang doesn’t quite explain the awe and wonder of the universe. The complexity of a single cell or the delicate balance of ecosystems all point to a Creator who carefully crafted every detail.
There are hundreds of other natural phenomena that reveal God’s infinite power. God speaks to us through His laws of nature every day. As you explore nature, let its beauty and complexity remind you of the loving God who designed it all.
At Faith Church, we see God’s handiwork in every aspect of creation, inspiring us to worship and wonder.
Human Conscience: A Moral Compass
Have you ever wondered why we have a sense of right and wrong? Even from a young age, we instinctively know when something is fair or unjust. This inner sense of morality, or conscience, is often attributed to a higher power-God.
The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines conscience as “the sense or consciousness of the moral goodness or blameworthiness of one’s own conduct, intentions, or character together with a feeling of obligation to do right or be good.”
Our conscience serves as a moral compass, guiding our decisions and actions. It’s a reminder that we are created beings with a God-given purpose beyond ourselves. Despite living in a world shaped by chance and survival, our conscience reflects a deeper, intentional design.
We can have some understanding of this because a randomly evolved process doesn’t explain the feelings of guilt and shame we experience even at a young age. In a vast world where everything’s shaped by chance and survival instincts, the fact that we are often guided by these emotions lacks a clear purpose.
As you reflect on your own conscience, consider how it might be a reflection of the divine within you.
History: The Bible as a Reliable Account
Pursuing success means it’s essential we ensure our vision is clear and focused. We’re all looking for 20/20 vision. But what happens when the focus on our success is more like being nearsighted and farsighted? The Bible isn’t just a religious text. It’s a historical document that tells the story of God’s interaction with humanity.
It’s amazing to see how this text has been faithfully passed down from generation to generation without losing its accuracy. Despite having been written by 40 different authors over centuries, the core message remains consistent throughout its various books: God loves us and desires a relationship with us.
Secular historians and archaeological evidence throughout time also support the Bible’s reliability. The existence of key figures and events, including Jesus Christ, has been confirmed by secular sources.
We can also find evidence of God’s existence in the prophecies contained within the Bible, which are filled with precision and further attest to its divine inspiration. This includes some incredibly specific predictions about the life of Jesus Christ, which were foretold hundreds of years before His birth and unfolded exactly as predicted. It’s incredible how the predictions and truths told back then are still valid today!
Personal Testimony: Stories of Transformation
One of the most compelling pieces of evidence for God’s existence is through the personal testimony. Countless individuals, including many in our own Faith Church community, have experienced life-changing encounters with the transformative power of God’s love.
These stories are not just about dramatic miracles, but also about everyday moments of grace and redemption. Whether through answered prayers, a sense of peace in the midst of chaos, or the ability to forgive those who have wronged us, God’s presence is felt in these moments. These personal encounters attest to His existence and love.
It’s important to note that while Jesus’ followers aren’t perfect, His love in our lives is often evidenced through our actions and our hearts that are changed for the better. We’re all a work in progress, but God loves us just as we are.
Embracing Faith with Wonder and Curiosity
Belief in God requires faith, but, as seen in the examples above, it’s not a blind faith. It’s about embracing a sense of wonder and curiosity about the world around us.
As you explore the evidence of God’s existence, may you be filled with a sense of awe and gratitude for the God who created you and loves you unconditionally.
At Faith Church, we invite you to join us on this journey of discovery. We’re here to walk alongside you as you explore the wonders of creation, the depths of our conscience, the richness of Biblical history, and the power of personal testimony.
Let’s seek answers to life’s biggest questions with open hearts and minds, knowing that the search for God is a journey worth taking.
“And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.” – Hebrews 11:6
