What Does it Mean to “Fear Not”?
Fear is a natural response to challenges or the unknown. It’s an emotion that serves a valuable purpose (think fight or flight response), but it can quickly become unhealthy when it paralyzes us or propels us into frantic behavior.
Negative outcomes aside, the Bible actually commands us to not be afraid. In fact, there are over 300 variations of the command to “fear not” throughout Scripture.
As Christians, we don’t need to fear because we know God is in control. He has the final say! God is on His throne today, right now, and that means nothing else wins – not a diagnosis, not unmet expectations, now even an uncertain future. He alone has all power and all authority, and NOTHING can threaten that.
When fear creeps in, we as believers are called to take our fears to the Lord and shift our perspective. Those fears begin to look a little differently when viewed through the promises of His unfailing and unchanging character.
Memorizing Scripture is a POWERFUL tool in the fight against fear. The Bible tells us that we have everything we need for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3) and renewing our minds through the living Word of God is proof of that. Fear becomes powerless when we have key verses memorized and speak them out loud, no matter how things look in the moment. Our faith gets stronger when we hear the Word of God (Romans 10:17). When we speak Scripture, it’s just as powerful as if the Word was spoken by Him.

He asks us to take our fears, worries, and anxieties to Him because He cares about us and wants good things for our lives (1 Peter 5:7).
