One Thing You Lack
The other morning I was taking out the trash…the trash that I told my SON to take out before he left. I was pulling the bag out of the can and muttering to myself.
“I TOLD him to take this trash out earlier! I got up at 7:00am to take him to the airport, and HE couldn’t even bother to take out the trash!”
Right then and there, the Holy Spirit said to me, “You need to stop griping about him. He’s an EXTRAORDINARY young man who has a lot on his plate and he forgot ONE little thing!”
Just one thing he lacked.
Like Father, Like Son
My dad was like that. If I didn’t do EVERYTHING he told me to do, or even if I DID, he always had ONE MORE THING. He was a very hard man.
If I wanted to go to Six Flags with my friends, it wasn’t uncommon for him to tell me, “You need to wash and wax the motor home BEFORE you leave.”
That thing was 38 feet long!!! If I wanted to get to Six Flags while I was still young enough to enjoy the rides, I had to learn to work FAST!
Many times I think I avoided my dad because I thought he might ask me to do that ONE MORE THING for him.
I’ve heard it said that “Disappointment is the GAP that exists between expectation and reality”.
“Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but ENCOURAGE one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.” Hebrews 10:24-26 (NLT)
We should be actively looking for ways to encourage and inspire people; and NOT make our family, friends or co-workers feel like we’re disappointed in them because they didn’t measure up to some UNREALISTIC imaginary standard.
Nobody (but God) is PERFECT. Especially not me!
I call you blessed!
